Indianapolis Bio-Compatible Dentist - Mercury Free Dentistry in Indianapolis
As a bio-compatible dentist in Indianapolis, Dr. Walton recognizes the impact of toxic materials as it relates to dental and physiological health. He is concerned with the integrity of the mouth and uses materials and procedures that are systemically compatible.
As a bio-compatible dental office, the team recognizes that dental materials can have an effect on a persons overall health whether by allergy to or toxic reaction from certain dental materials. At Gary V. Walton, DDS, it is recognized that your mouth is a site in which bacterial infection and inflammation around the teeth can have an adverse effect on overall health. The function of the jaw and teeth and their harmonious balance is important to the function and wear and tear that teeth take over a lifetime.
Many people do not realize that silver or amalgam fillings contain mercury. According to the International Academy of Oral Medicine & Toxicology (IAOMT), "the World Health Organization has concluded that dental fillings contribute more mercury to a person's body than all other sources of mercury combined." Because of the possibility of potential health risks associated with mercury, Dr. Walton prefers the use of tooth colored or composite fillings as an alternative.
Tooth colored fillings are "Mercury-Free" and are accepted as being bio-compatible. In addition to being more aesthetically pleasing, tooth colored fillings bond better to the tooth structure, thereby making the tooth itself stronger. Dr. Walton specializes in the safe removal of silver (Amalgam) fillings and the replacement with tooth colored (Composite) fillings. He prefers to use tooth colored and non-metal restorations made from porcelain, composite (acrylic) or zorconia oxide. There are a few instances where some metal is required to provide treatment but the majority of our treatments do not involve the use of metal.
